Cristino Castro Perea, murdered for defending his land in Oaxaca, Mexico

Cristino Castro Perea, member of the environment defenders collective in Barra de la Cruz, Oaxaca, has been murdered in plain sight on February 28, despite being under the protection of the mexican federal goverment for his work as a land defender.

His work started when in 2013 a group of invaders and speculators tried to steal communal land in order to privatize it and resell it to international hotel chains. This area is of particular interest due to the popularity that it holds among surfers.
Colonial interest are willing to ignore that this area is also one of the world’s most important leatherback sea turtle nesting beaches home to many species of local flora and fauna, specially mangrove.

Unfortunately, this crime adds up to the series of terrorist acts that international companies and the mexican goverment, with the help of local gunmen, have been carrying on to crush any resistence to their plans to expand capital interests in the region.

¡Cristino Castro Perea vive, la lucha sigue!
