Learn and train others in how to conduct water investigations

The aim of this topic is to facilitate discussion about the learning resources we produce. The various documents produced will be posted below. We invite you to participate by commenting here or in the various other related media or topics that we use.

The first batch is made up of :

  • 1. Investigating Water Issues: Methods and Principles. (4 hours)
    • This workshop introduces participants to the basic principles of water issues and investigation. It provides tips and tricks for investigating exposure to water access, water pollution, vulnerabilities and coping capacities that participants can apply to their local context. Participants will learn about the complex relationship between climate change, human activities, public policy and societal security, as well as potential wrongdoing related to water infrastructure.
  • 2. Safety & Security First! (4 hours)
    • Starting an investigation means facing up to risks, for oneself, for the group, for friends and family. Safety First! Stay digitally, physically and psychologically safe and aware of potential risks at all times by adopting some basic good practices and tools to keep your human sources, yourself and your evidence protected. And Risk is inherited
  • 3. Investigating water (and soil) in the field: Learning by doing (2 days)
    • The basics of preliminary identification of a site for investigation with sampling planning
    • How to get there, how to check in, start the investigation, take samples and store them
      • Do It Yourself Seed Bioessay (ecotoxicity protocol) and spectrum analysis on water (with open hardware)
    • Analyze samples yourself and/or choose trusted third parties

    • Use a portable radio reception kit (SDR – Software Defined Radio) to reinforce investigation data and also to spot potential risks
    • Gathering and producing narratives of investigations with local residents
