The fight against nickel mining in Izabal, Guatemala has come at a high cost. Community leader Víctor Colindres was murdered.
A well-known defender of the territory, was killed with a firearm today in his community of San Antonio Sejá in the city of Livingston, Izabal in Guatemala. He participated in numerous rallies against an excessive issuing of mining licenses in the country throughout the year.
Also known as “Manuel Tecolote,” the social activist was known for his participation in protests against nickel mining in the Sierra Santa Cruz, in Livingston, according to Prensa Comunitaria.
