TBA21–Academy, in collaboration with Tactical Tech’s “Exposing the Invisible” project and artist-researcher Federico Pérez Villoro, invites applications for “Webs of Water”, an online activation series exploring the relationship between technology infrastructures, freshwater scarcity and water distribution issues in the Caribbean.

Taking place from March to May 2025, this program invites journalists, researchers, artists, scientists, and activists to collaboratively investigate the environmental impact of tech industries on water access. Participants will analyze the physical and geopolitical dimensions of computing infrastructures through workshops and collective mapping.

Hi there,
I’m interested in participating and looking forward to collaborate
Also, to be honest, I currently don’t hold any relevant experience on any of the realms mentioned in the description, however I still don’t think it could be an impediment if more people want to join so that we can share different skills.

Nice to read from you and your interest about this Call.
I already sent an individual application few hours before your post. Let’s look at it as a potential opportunity if we get a positive response and go there together but not the only thing.

I’d prefer a common application with you. So what piques your curiosity and/or motivates your desire for this webinar? I asking with the idea to start a draft for new one with you

Thanks for asking!

My willingness has as its core the principle of “defending water is to defend life” (roughly translated from ES).
I work in computing infrastructure, concretely with data centers that require no water during operations, as they reuse heat through immersive cooling systems. At my job I became very aware of the exaggerated amount of resources that data centers can require and how this is exponentially increasing due to the race generated by the so called AI. It’s disgusting.
I’m also aware that more and more data centers are being located in water scarce areas, for example, in MX both Google and AWS are building facilities in Querétaro, which is a state with high water stress where people do not even get full access as they compete for it with the national and foreign industry facilities.

Then, the stated objective “To create a network, a collaborative space and a knowledge resource that socializes the group’s findings and methodologies, serving as a public tool for future initiatives.” is very appealing and is something that I’d like to help building.

Does it all make sense? If so, do you think that we could submit something?
If you think that it makes more sense to submit individually just let me know, no issue.

(I forgot to hit reply and wanted to ammend it, while trying I get an error, deleted the post and now I get more errors, sorry for the non intended spam).

Hi @raybaxha
I’m currently experiencing severe flooding.

I suggest you make an application of your own, you can mention that it’s joint with mine and/or that I’m doing it under the hack2o umbrella.
The deadline for applications is 5 February. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Hello @xavi and @raybaxha,
I didn’t want to reply cause not feeling knowledgeable for such Thyssen foundation… But interested by the process, so may I propose to help for apply, if you feel it right for Hack2O process ?

Hi,

I was really interested and motivated by the topic so I’ve sent my application a couple of weeks ago already.
Sorry for not updating here, I didn’t think of that.

I’m not sure on whether we can resubmit as a group now? What’s your feeling-thinking?

@xavi I’m sorry about the severe flooding, I hope you, your family and community are doing well. I’m not sure if from Brussels there’s some way to help ¡Fuerza y coraje!
